FOIP Training

Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) training is available to support public bodies in the effective administration of the FOIP legislation. The FOIP training program offers four instructor-led courses and an online course.

Instructor-Led Training

Instructor-led FOIP training is available to current employees of public bodies.

The FOIP training program includes three one-day courses for employees who are responsible for FOIP and a half-day course for employees who require a basic overview of the concepts of protection of privacy and access to information. Training courses are held in Edmonton and Calgary several times a year or arrangements can be made for delivery of any or all of the classroom courses at your workplace.

The courses in this program have been developed by Service Alberta, the ministry responsible for the province-wide administration of Alberta’s FOIP Act. The ministry has contracted with Deloitte & Touche LLP to deliver the classroom courses and handle course registrations and billing of participants.

Online Training

The "FOIP: Focus on Privacy" course is an online training tool designed specifically for employees of all levels within public bodies, but is accessible by anyone. The course is a basic overview of the concepts of informational privacy. Most of the course deals with privacy and the protection of personal information. The public’s right to access records of a public body is discussed as well.
